What does CMOS and CDD mean?

The terms CMOS and CCD refer to the imaging devices within the cameras. CMOS stands for Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor and CCD stands for Charge Coupled Devices.

Both provide advantages and disadvantages over each other, below is a basic guide.

CMOS consumes less power, CCD consumes as much as 100 times more power than an CMOS sensor. For solutions including the battery powered micro camera the CMOS sensor is ideal.

CCD sensors create a higher quality, lower noise image than CMOS

CCD has a more uniform picture quality over CMOS, the picture on CMOS can be a little washed out in parts.

CMOS sensors are smaller, and provide options for micro cameras such at the ones we offer.

CCD tends to be more expensive to produce over CMOS sensors, due to this CCD based cameras are generally more expensive.
